Gold and Silver Christmas Tablescape – featuring World Market decor!

Mercury glass has increasingly become a popular trending item for many home décor enthusiasts.  I myself, have had a love for all things mercury glass for several years, including its more recent introduction into the holiday stylings of several Christmas pieces.  So you can imagine my excitement when I came across these multi-sized mercury glass spheres at my local Cost Plus – World Market store here in town.  In an instant, I knew I had to make these beautiful, antique-looking spheres—etched with intricate floral designs—a center piece for my holiday decorations this year.  The more I looked around the store, the more I found items that I was certain would make for a beautiful and sophisticated Christmas tablescape… all at this one store.

Along with the different sized mercury glass spheres, which sit up easily on their small flat bases, I came across these unique, white, hand glittered trees (similar here) made of textured paper that were just as gorgeous, as they were an easy holiday feature for my table.  The subtle glitter of these trees makes them a thoughtful and interesting counterpart to the shining spheres.  They came in two different sizes, and a rule of thumb I always like to follow when decorating a table or mantle, whatever it is that needs some dimension, is that three is always a good number to stick with: two large, one small to give the appropriate height to the table without over-doing it.

I am quite simplistic when it comes to tablescapes, and this year’s Christmas table was no different.  I opted for silvers, golds, and a bit of burlap to complement my natural, yet sophisticated, Christmas tree I decorate each year.  Silver herringbone pillar candles added a more romantic touch to the table, and the two glittered leaves candle rings sitting beneath the two taller candles pulled in all the colors and the theme with beautiful gold leaves and faceted ball accents in icy clear and silver hues.  Gold chargers sit beneath my ivory colored Lenox Butler’s Pantry Gourmet dishware (Similar, here): a simple dinner and salad plate worked well.  A top those were these gorgeous, and quite interesting, ivory and silver herringbone napkins (we also like these) with a self-fringe to balance the more casual look of the burlap, while still offering the Christmas-y shine of glitter.

I found wintery, gold snowflake ornaments (similar here) at World Market to use as napkin rings—simply tying a string around them and the napkin to hold in place.  These snowflakes really helped pull the simplistic look of the dishware back into the theme that was going on in the center of the table.

We of course added silver-plated utensils, and a wine and water glass to each table setting.  I kept it quite a casual setting, with fewer utensils and glassware than a more formal tablescape would feature.  This could of course be modified in any which way you choose.

I made the table runner myself; finding a gorgeous upholstery fabric at my local JoAnn’s Fabric Store in burlap with a beautiful gold design running throughout.  This was an easy project.  I bought one yard of fabric, and cut that right down the middle to make it long enough.  I sewed the two ends together to make it one long table runner, to line the length of my table.  I then used an iron to iron down all the edges twice to give it a more seamless look, and sewed those down along all sides.  Easy!

In the end, I was quite pleased with the way this Christmas tablescape turned out.  I encompassed all of my favorite looks for the holiday season: glimmer, gold and silver, with a sophisticated, yet, nature-like feel.  We also took a few pieces and made our front console a bit more merry and seamless, by adding those to brighten it up in the holiday spirit! Many of the items I found at World Market are now currently on sale, so don’t wait before they are all sold out!  You can shop in store, or online!  Merry Christmas, all!
